How To Design A Two-Toned Kitchen

Have you been eyeing the two-tone kitchen trend? We’ve got some tips, tricks, and inspiration below to help you create an eye-catching design you’ll love.

A Perfect Pairing

Two-tone kitchens can be a great way to try out bolder design choices. It’s the perfect middle ground for going slightly outside your comfort zone. Like to keep it simple? Use a pop of color in a kitchen island or a range hood. This is a nice way to bring an accent color to an otherwise monochromatic space. Prefer to go all out with bolder colors? Our finishes also complement each other for more adventurous color blocking.

Design Tip

Contrast your cabinets around appliances like refrigerators or range hoods. This helps create a natural focal point, and makes it easier to design a cohesive space.

Here are some other ways to make the two-tone trend work for you:

Small Space? No Problem.

A two-tone design can actually help a small kitchen appear larger. In this space, we used our Painted Vanilla cabinetry on the primary base and wall cabinets and complemented them with Painted Boulder for the island. This visual dynamic not only brings an extra dose of drama, but also helps the space look (and feel!) a lot larger than it is.

Celebrate Nature With A Serene Space

This kitchen brings the great outdoors inside with this calming color combination. The base cabinets create an earthy backdrop with Painted Sage while the wall cabinets in Maple Rye warm up the room.  Floating shelves and a range hood add an extra level of depth and dimension. All in all, this pairing creates a balanced, soothing effect.

Try Color Blocking

In this space, we’ve used a medium toned Maple Latte on the primary L-shape of the kitchen, and contrasted it with lighter Painted Biscotti cabinetry for the accent nook. Then we added an island in Painted Black for a natural focal point and finished it off with complementary decorative hardware for a polished look.
